25 Ways to embrace self-love this summer
From the squall of gulls gliding over the bay, to the whimsical tune of an ice cream truck to the burning of a charcoal barbecue, summer is a time to languish, soak up vitamin D, and replenish one’s energy stores. How can we hang on to the lazy daydream of summer, avoid the push to be and do more? I return to the basics, to the little things that bring me joy, peace, love, summer love:

1. Pour your morning coffee over ice, add a dollop of fresh whipped cream, drink it with a striped paper straw.
2. Paint your toenails bubble gum pink.
3. Tie your ponytail with a bright colored ribbon.
4. Give your porch flowerpots a fresh coat of paint.
5. Crank up and dance to your favorite summertime tunes.
6. Buy a wild pair of flip-flops.
7. Collect ticket stubs, pop tops, wildflowers, etc. from your experiences and create a scrapbook.

8. Blow bubbles and watch as they float away.
9. Draw chalk murals on your driveway or sidewalk, even if you can’t think of anything to draw-doodle.
10. Walk barefoot in the grass.
11. Sink your toes into the sand.
12. Take a nap in a hammock.
13. Find a comfy space, curl up, read a book.
14. Watch a movie at an outdoor theater.
15. Take a drive through the countryside.

16. Go swimming in the lake.
17. Hike in the woods.
18. Write yourself a love letter and mail it.
19. Eat ice cream in a hot tub.
20. Journal about your favorite summer adventure.
21. Take a spa day.
